The Dead Money Project

The Grand Bear Video Game Archive will be using the format of video essays popularized from YouTube creators like Game Maker's Toolkit and Satchell Drakes, to create analytic long form video content that will combine the visual chops of the video essay art form with the academic and analytical rigor of academic works.

The first subject for such an exploration will be Dead Money, Fallout New Vegas’ first downloadable expansion which up until this point has very little written on it within the greater gaming journalistic community and no academic works of note investigating its development.

The decision to choose this work in particular was partially done so out of respect to how little had been done in analyzing the work itself as well as its development cycle. The expedited development cycle as well, being over the course of a few months, compared to most game development projects that can span years, also allows the subject matter in question to be tackled with better specificity.

This page will house the research and documentation that has been uncovered as the project wears on. Currently the project has been focused on accumulating interviews with the developers and game makers that worked on the project. As such the archive has already accumulated five interviews for the project with others in the process of being conducted. Other primary sources from the games development and its release have been collected such as the original voice auditions of the character Dog/God graciously provided by voice acting veteran Dave B. Mitchell.
